Vande Bharat Train to Extend from Jammu to Srinagar Soon

The Railways Department has announced an exciting development for train travel in Jammu and Kashmir. The Vande Bharat Express, currently running from Katra to Srinagar, will soon extend its service to originate from Jammu. This extension aims to enhance connectivity and make travel more convenient for locals and visitors alike.

Divisional Railway Manager Jammu, Vivek Kumar, confirmed the timeline for the service enhancement. He stated that preparations are actively underway to facilitate this expansion.

According to Kumar, extensive delays had previously occurred due to significant damage to railway tracks caused by recent floods and incessant rains. “We are working on it. The delay occurred because of massive damage to tracks due to floods and heavy rains. But sooner or later, this service will be available to the people of Jammu,” Kumar declared during a press conference.

This latest extension aligns with the Indian Railways’ broader mission to modernize and enhance rail infrastructure across the country. The restoration work is progressing rapidly, and officials will launch the service once safety clearances are obtained.

Initially introduced earlier this year, the Katra–Srinagar Vande Bharat service has already made a remarkable impact on reducing travel time between the Valley and the base camp of the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. The planned extension to Jammu is poised to further boost regional connectivity, benefiting commuters, pilgrims, and tourists.

Once operational, the Jammu-Srinagar Vande Bharat service is expected to provide daily runs for passengers. This service promises improved travel comfort and reduced journey time, surpassing the existing rail and road services.

Indian Railways projects that the new service will cater to various passengers, easing access to critical destinations and enhancing the overall travel experience in the mountainous terrain of Jammu and Kashmir.
