RAMBAN, JULY 08: Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Gool Imtiaz chaired a crucial Sub-Division Level Disaster Management and Coordination Meeting today. This initiative aims to enhance disaster preparedness and inter-departmental coordination in response to natural hazards like floods and landslides.
The meeting gathered key officers, including Tehsildar Harjeet Singh, SDPO Kuldeep Raj, and representatives from various departments, including health, PDD, FCS&CA, and SDRF. Their goal: strengthen relief measures for local communities at risk.
During discussions, officials reviewed the existing disaster management plans, assessing personnel availability, machinery stock, and the functioning of control rooms. The SDM urged departments to maintain heightened vigilance as the monsoon season approaches, which poses heightened risks of landslides and flash floods.
“We must adopt proactive measures and ensure seamless coordination among all departments during emergencies,” stated the SDM. He called on the Jal Shakti, PWD, and PMGSY departments to pinpoint vulnerable spots and have response teams on standby.
The Health Department must have sufficient medicines, ambulances, and medical staff ready at Central Health Center (CHC) Gool and local Primary Health Centers (PHCs). Furthermore, the FCS&CA department is to ensure a buffer stock of essential rations, while the PDD is responsible for backup power supply arrangements.
SDM Imtiaz directed Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars to carry out regular inspections of vulnerable areas. They must compile updated lists of disaster-prone locations and promote community awareness regarding safety measures.
“Community involvement is critical during disasters,” he stressed, advocating for locals to spread crucial information on safety protocols during emergencies.
Additionally, police forces and representatives from the 23 RR have been enlisted to assist with rescue and evacuation efforts, while Beacon representatives will facilitate the early restoration of roads in case of blockages.
The SDM reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property. “Our top priority is effective coordination and timely responses,” he said, emphasizing that public cooperation is essential in mitigating the impacts of natural disasters. He assured that the administration is well-prepared to address any challenges that may arise from natural calamities.
