Amarnath Yatra Suspended from Baltal Route Due to Weather

The annual Amarnath Yatra faced a significant disruption as officials announced its suspension from the Baltal route on Friday. Heavy rains and a minor flash flood in the region led to this decision. The pilgrimage began on July 3, allowing around 4.5 lakh devotees to visit the holy cave shrine, which houses the naturally formed ice lingam.

Officials reported that the adverse weather conditions caused the suspension to facilitate urgent repairs along the route. Additionally, authorities earlier halted the Yatra from the Pahalgam route to conduct necessary maintenance work as well.

According to reports, the Baltal area experienced heavy rains on Thursday night. This extreme weather triggered a minor flash flood at one location, although officials confirmed that there were no injuries or property damage.

Due to these complications, no pilgrims are allowed to proceed towards the holy cave shrine from the Baltal route as repair work is actively underway. Officials aim to ensure that conditions will be safe for the devotees before allowing the yatra to resume.

The pilgrimage is set to conclude on August 28, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan. Thousands of devotees eagerly await the resumption of the yatra, hoping to pay their respects at the revered shrine.

As the situation evolves, officials continue to monitor weather forecasts and assess when it will be safe to reopen the routes. Local authorities emphasized the safety of pilgrims as a priority and urged them to remain patient during this weather-related interruption.
